OnRamp Arts: Communities Transforming Arts & Technology

1998-02: OnRamp Arts was a digital arts organization in central Los Angeles that created, produced and distributed collaborative new media projects with community members and artists in their lab based in Echo Park. OnRamp provided a collaborative network of its participants to allow for the emergence of innovative, compelling digital arts projects that inhabit spaces between high technology and lived experience. At the completion of Tropical America, the organization did not have funds to remain open. The digital arts lab was donated to youth-services provider Central City Action Committee for use in its after-school programs. Co-founding principals Stephen Metts and Jessica Irish moved to the East Coast to pursue new ventures, while remaining on the Board of Directors during the transition period. Stephen can be reached at smetts {at} fastmail dot fm - Jessica can be reached at jessicairish {at} mac dot com

2003-04: As a networked, virtual existence, OnRamp continued it's work in the community under the direction of Marcela Oliva and LA Trade Technical College, to map, record, document and study the important civic findings through dynamic interfaces. The continued project Mapping LA/Cross-Secting LA, brings a unique and innovative service to the community; address complex and holistic issues; conscious mapping, system dynamics, implicit learning and teaching for comprehension. Marcela can be reached at semilla {at} ix.netcom.com

OnRamp has formally closed all of its formal programs and operations - the linked projects are available for continued access and viewing.
